Healthcare is an very important issue in every country in the world and no country seems to have the solution with most countries having giant medical bureaucracies, less than quality care, high priced coverage, lack of coverage or a combination of all the above. Vietnam is somewhat behind many other counties on this important issue and considering that position, you need to carefully consider other options such as holistic care, traditional Oriental medicine/treatments, and changing your own perspective on personal health care, taking actions to create a more healthy mind and body, thereby hopefully limiting your exposure to the risks of having to see a doctor or surgeon for major medical care.

There are several fine medical establishments in Vietnam such as Franco-Vietnam hospital in Saigon which is said to have above average treatment for major conditions such as cardiac and stroke care and a number of smaller clinic type facilities such as Columbia Clinic also in Saigon which has a wide assortment of doctors from the US, France, Vietnam, and elsewhere to help you when you are injured. Dental care is also somewhat in need in Vietnam and while all of this is changing for the better, it takes time and if you are on the borderline of good health, or have various habits such as smoking or other debilitative habits, you need to be aware that not much can be done for your health if you don't take care of yourself first!

That said, there are good doctors in Vietnam, as well as traditional Oriental medicine that abounds and if you make the effort to take care of yourself, the basic medical care in Vietnam is as good as anywhere. Only when a crisis occurs should you need to have concerns and in that case there are other options such as airlift to Singapore and even Thailand although this should be considered as a last resort and only if necessary for the most major of medical crises.

Medical cares cost in Vietnam is but a fraction of what it costs in your home country and the market for medical treatment in Asia is one that is growing by leaps and bounds and will therefore become much better in the months and years ahead.
